Registered Acupuncture & Cupping Therapy in Vancouver
Michelle Lee R.A.c
Michelle is a second-generation Chinese Canadian with strong ties to her culture. Chinese Medicine has been a part of her life from a young age from attending acupuncture appointments with her parents to watching her Yeh Yeh (grandpa) boil pungent herbs in their garage. The teachings and philosophies of Traditional Chinese Medicine are founded on the principles of balance and harmony – balance and harmony within yourself, with others, and with Mother Nature. When things are out of balance, dis-ease is the result. Michelle aims to teach her patients to live intuitively and aligned with Mother Nature to achieve a life of balance. Outside of the clinic, Michelle loves spending time down at the beach with her dog (especially during low tide) and trying out new recipes in the kitchen.

Here are some of the modalities within Acupuncture
Acupuncture Therapy:
Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners believe there are over 2,000 acupuncture points throughout the body. These specific points run along energy pathways, also known as meridians, or Jing Luo. There are a variety of concepts that are fundamental to Traditional Chinese Medicine theory, but fundamental to each theory is the idea of balance and harmony. Disease occurs in the body when your body is no longer in balance. Acupuncture needles are inserted in the body to promote or reduce energy in an attempt to bring the body into it’s natural equilibrium.
Cupping therapy:
Cupping therapy can be done with glass, bamboo, pottery cups, or historically, animal horns. Today, there are silicone cups as well as manual suction cups. Modern research has found that cupping is beneficial for providing a form of myofascial release. Traditionally, cups are placed on the skin surface to help with local congestion, extract wind and cold (or “evil qi”) from the body, as well as promote the smooth flow of qi and blood in there meridians. Cupping along with blood letting can also treat acute sprains accompanied with blood stasis.
Moxibustion Therapy:
Moxibustion therapy involves the burning of dried mugwort (latin name: artemisia vulgaris) to “warm up the body”. Moxa is pure yang in nature and can help add add “Yang” energy back into the body to re-balance yin and yang. Dried Mugwort can be found in various forms and used in a variety of different ways. It is often used in patients with arthritis, digestive disorders, and gynaecological problems. It can be used alongside acupuncture needles, or as a stand alone treatment.
Electric Acupuncture
Electric Acupuncture or electro-acupuncture is the process of clipping small electrical wires to acupuncture needles. A light electrical current is passed through the needles that simulate the practitioner manually manipulating the needles. Electro-acupuncture can aid in both chronic and acute pain, inflammation, and degenerative conditions by promoting blood circulation.
Auricular Acupuncture
Auricular acupuncture is the practice of healing pathological problems using the external surface of the ear. This can include inserting needles or placing ear seeds on the ear surface to stimulate it’s corresponding somatotopic region of the body! Auricular acupuncture can be done on it’s own as a form of treatment, or combined with body points.
Gua Sha
In direct translation, “gua” is scrape while “sha” refers to sand and the red dots known as petechiae. While this has gained popularity in our modern beauty community, traditionally Gua Sha can be done throughout the body, not just the face. This scrapping therapy helps to remove stasis, detoxify, increase immune function, and aids in soft tissue injuries.
